In addition to confronting our own prejudices I feel that as a caucasian it is my responsibility to confront family and friends who outwardly exhibit racism. When I'm at Thanksgiving dinner with family I don't let anyone get away with racist or demeaning comments of any kind. If they do then I make them uncomfortable. If it ruins dinner for everyone then it's a small price to pay.

Do not let racists feel comfortable, anywhere.
